There Was an Old Lady Who Planted a Tree

Do your students like the Old Lady as much as mine do?  We have been loving the Lucille Colandro stories as we celebrate holidays!   I decided to try my hand at creating my own for Earth Day, which is April 22nd.  Although this old lady doesn’t eat anything, the book keeps the rhyming and repetitive pattern of the “Old Lady” books.  There Was an Old Lady Who Planted a Tree follows the Old Lady-book style with rhyming and repetition.  It features the old lady as she saves the earth by planting a tree, composting, picking up litter, riding a bike, recycling, hanging clothes out to dry and turning off lights and water.  Each page also includes a fun fact about the green action.

In addition, I created 4 follow-up activities to target language, listening and literacy skills.  Those activities include:

1.  Picture sequence cards for retelling
2.  Comprehension question cards
3.  Sorting the Recycling, a following directions barrier game
4.  Written response about what green action(s) they can take

The full-length printable book, along with the four literature unit activities can be found here in my TPT store:

Have fun with the old lady by learning some Earth Day facts, as well as targeting listening, language and literacy skills!  I hope you like it!  Thanks!
